It’s Monday, that awful time of the week when you’re trying to restart your brain after a relaxing weekend. Luckily, there’s a really simple way to feel less tired on Monday morning. According to the University of Essex, you just need to see more green.
The theory is that the colour green has positive associations built into our brain from when we were living in caves. So to unlock your green-loving inner caveman, try some of these smartphone tips.
Get a green wallpaper
We don’t mean just a solid block of green - that would probably hurt your eyes before long. Instead, download an app like Zedge and find yourself an image that’s mostly green. If the scientific theory is that we’re instinctively inspired by nature, we’d guess a nice leafy scene would work best. But the research just says anything green, so a garish Lamborghini or a map of the Emerald Isle should do just as well.
Play a green game
Who doesn’t want something fun to play while plodding along on that Monday commute? Well, find a green game and your entertainment could motivate you for the working day too. We love WGT Golf Mobile for its brilliant realism, and the beautiful greenery should serve as a nice pick-me-up. Or, if you prefer something a bit more fast-paced, get Colin McRae Rally (Android, iOS) and enjoy racing through tree-covered mountains.
Don’t text, use WhatsApp
Green doesn’t just make you feel less tired and more motivated, brief flashes of the colour can also make you more creative. So while you might not look at WhatsApp for long, using it instead of sending a text message could help you get your week off to flying start.
Buy a green phone
For a constant hit of positive vibes, why not invest in a green phone? There are loads to choose from so there’s bound to be one for you – from the superb Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, to the super-value Microsoft Lumia 435.
Who’d have thought going green could have such a positive effect on your Monday motivation? If you’ve got any great green apps, tell us about them in the comments below.
