Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P unveiled

Google partner with LG and Huawei

Every year Google reaches out to different manufactures to build the new Nexus smartphone, but this year it looks like the search engine couldn’t settle on just one.

In a never before seen move, Google has recruited two different manufactures to build two Nexus smartphones - in this instance, LG and Huawei, creating the 5X and 6P respectively. Let’s take a closer look.

LG Nexus 5X

The Nexus 5X measures in with a 5.2-inch Full HD display, slotting in right next to the Xperia Z5 and the Samsung Galaxy S6. It has a plastic rear, which makes it a little lighter than most, but the material doesn’t take anything away from the overall premium feel.

A 12.3MP camera sits on the back, just above a fingerprint sensor, and there’s a secondary 5MP camera round the front for all your selfie needs.

It also gives us a chance to see Android Marshmallow in the flesh, which has Google Now On Tap, a few aesthetic updates as well some bug fixes to boot.

Huawei Nexus 6P

The larger of the two smartphones is the Nexus 6P, which is a suitable follow-up to last year’s Nexus 6 by Motorola. It features a 5.7-inch Quad HD display (aka WQHD) and a 12.3MP camera just like the LG variant above.

The P6’s rear is made of solid metal, and it too has a fingerprint sensor slap bang in the middle. Both sensors are positioned in the natural place you would rest your index finger when holding the phone, so it’s not awkward to access as some might think from looking at images.

For a closer look at the two new phones, check out our hands-on video at the top of this post. You can also order the Nexus 5X now, with the 16GB and Ice Blue versions only available at Carphone Warehouse on the high street. You’ll be able to order the Nexus 6P here before the end of the week.
