T3 Awards: Meet the phone of the year

Last night saw the glitz and glamour of Britain’s most prestigious technology awards, the T3 Awards, with every big name in the mobile world clamouring to pick up a prize. So let’s take a look at who’s king of the gadgets this year.

The most important prize of the night (at least from where we’re standing) was the Phone of the Year award. For the last two years it’s been safely locked away in HTC’s trophy cabinet thanks to the gorgeous One series. But last night Samsung managed to wrestle the crown away from its Taiwanese rival.

T3’s panel of judges and readers voted the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge the Phone of the Year 2015. Samsung’s new focus on premium design had a big hand in winning the award, giving the new phone’s world-class hardware the looks to match.

The next big prize of the night was Tablet of the Year. This award is kind of a procession for Apple – like watching Germany in the group stages of a world cup. Every year a new iPad arrives and is handed the title, no matter how hard the competition tries. This year, the iPad Air 2 took home the trophy.

A less certain category for this year’s T3 Awards was Wearable Technology of the Year. Wearables have had a hard time fighting for their share of our wallets without any particular gadget really standing out with something unique. But T3’s experts and readers managed to come up with their favourite and voted Apple Watch the best wearable of 2015.

There were lots of other categories that weren’t so mobile related, and you can see the winners of them all below. But what do you think of the best phone, tablet and wearable of 2015? Do you agree with the T3 Awards? Let us know in the comments below.
