Meet the Sony Xperia Z5 family

Three is the magic number

Following in Motorola’s footsteps, Sony has just announced three new smartphones at IFA - the Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium. But other than their varying sizes, what sets these handsets apart from not only each other, but also the competition? Let’s find out…

Sony Xperia Z5 Compact

The Z5 Compact features a 4.6-inch Full HD display, which is a step up in quality terms when compared to its predecessor, the Xperia Z3+ Compact. It’s perfect for one-handed use, and means you no longer have to compromise and go for a larger phone if you want the top specs.

Like its two big brothers, it boasts a 23MP camera which is amazing quality for a compact handset, and can also autofocus is under 0.1-seconds.

It’s still waterproof, certified at IP68 and features a new fingerprint sensor under the home button on the right hand side of the device. There is also a new squared off design, which runs through the Z5 range.

Sony Xperia Z5

The Xperia Z5 is for the Goldilocks’ out there – not too big, not too small. It also features the same waterproof superpowers, fingerprint scanner and awesome 23MP camera that the Compact has.

The display measures in 5.2-inches and is Full HD, which isn’t any better than the Z3+, but is impressive all the same. To find out more about how the Z5 compares to its predecessor, the Sony Xperia Z3+, follow this link for our full comparison.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium

Introducing the first 4K smartphone display. That’s right - smartphones have come and gone with the ability to shoot video in 4K, but never before have you been able to watch it back on the same device. To find out more about how good 4K is, and how it differs from Quad HD, click here.

The Xperia Z5 Premium’s display measures in at 5.5-inches, and the quality is four times better than Full HD – that’s a pixel p/inch density of 807. If that’s not enough it's also got all the same great improvements that feature on the other two handsets, and a giant battery to help power that super display.

We’ll be spending some more time with all three handsets soon, so keep your eyes peeled for more.
