Premier League

Fantasy Premier League is the game that puts you in the managerial hot-seat for the season.

With only £100 million to spend (yes, only £100 million) you have to pick 15 players and then field your strongest team each week. You accumulate points for every player that scores, keeps a clean sheet, gets an assist, or has a good game. You can also select transfers throughout the season to make sure your squad is in tip-top shape.

Players enter leagues with their friends to see who will bag the most points as well as the bragging rights come the end of the season.

The Second Half by Roy Keane

Roy Keane

The eponymous hard-man of football pulls no punches in this searing memoir of his last days playing the game and subsequent spell in management.

Ghost written by Man Booker Prize-winner Roddy Doyle, the book reveals Keane’s fastidious observance to straight talking as well as his blistering intolerance (he once refused to sign a player because his answerphone message was rubbish).

Film

One Night in Turin

One night in Turin

If anything is going to get you in the mood for football, then it’s got to be the story of England’s heroic but ultimately ill-fated bid for glory at the Italia 90 World Cup tournament.

At 90 minutes long and narrated by Gary Oldman, the film starts by explaining how the English game was in disgrace due to widespread football violence and hooliganism. The England manager, Sir Bobby Robson, was also under intense media scrutiny as the team were widely lambasted for not being good enough. What happened next changed English football forever.

Over six weeks, the team united the nation amid a series of heroic displays and just missed out on getting to the World Cup final. From Gazza’s tears to Lineker’s smooth finishing, this is the definitive story of England’s journey over that summer.

Available to buy from the Google Play Store and the App Store.

Music

World in Motion by New Order

World in Motion

It may be classed as a World Cup song but it’s still a top tune and has also got a rap by John Barnes in it.
