Sony Xperia Z3+ vs LG G4

Wondering how the LG G4 and Sony Xperia Z3+ compare?
Sony Xperia Z3+ vs LG G4

Battle of the flagships

We’ve got the Sony Xperia Z3+ and the LG G4 available online and in store right now, but how do the two flagships stack up against each other? Let’s find out…

Design & display

For starters, there’s not much difference in size. Over the past few years it seems smartphone manufacturers have settled on the perfect screen size being somewhere between the 5 and 5.5-inch mark. And, the story is no different here, with the Xperia Z3+ measuring it at 5.2-inches, and the G4 just slightly larger at 5.5-inches.

The quality of the displays, however, is notably different. The Xperia is still coasting along with Full HD, which it has since the original Xperia Z released in 2013, while LG has steeped in up a gear to Quad HD. Images quality is really sharp, and video playback is bright and clear.

When it comes to looks, the two couldn’t be further apart. The LG features a genuine leather rear with stitching running down the centre, whereas the Sony is pressed between two sheets of glass. It’s a more clean cut design, but if it’s character you’re looking for, the LG shouts personality.

The Z3+ features a 20.7MP camera, capable of producing really sharp images with accurate colours and great detail. You can record video in stunning 4K and there’s a wealth of apps in Sony’s photography suite to make sure you can always get great shots.

On the other hand, the G4 features a 16MP camera, but it’s important to note it’s not always about megapixels. As you will be able to see in our ultimate Android camera comparison article, the LG has a largely unrivalled aptitude to take great shots, mostly to do with it’s impressive lens aperture of f/1.8, which basically means it can let in more light.

There’s also its ability to capture images in RAW format, which provides more options for manipulation when editing – so, great for photography buffs.

Like the Z3+, the G4 can shoot in 4K. It’s a great feature if you have a 4K telly to play it back on, but pretty useless if you’re still slumming it with a Full HD TV (like pretty much everyone).

The Sony has an ever so slightly smaller battery in comparison, but we’re really splitting hairs here - there’s hardly anything in it (2,930mAh against LG’s 3,000mAh). Both phones will happily see you through a full day and into the night, so you needn’t worry about going off the radar.

The processor sizes don’t differ that much either, with both supporting extra backup if needed for streaming films or running big apps and games. Again, the similarities continue with RAM - both boasting 3GB.

Honestly, there’s not much in it when it comes to specs - it’s more down to design and camera ability.

If you’re looking for something that will stand out in the crowd and has an unbeatable camera, the LG G4 is going to be for you. If, however, you’re looking for something a little more traditional and compact the Z3+ is definitely worth a look.
