Nokia says it'll be back… at the end of 2016

Just like Terminator, Nokia will be back. That’s according to a spokesman for the company who’s said it’s looking for a world-class partner to build Nokia-designed phones.

Nokia needs a partner because it sold its manufacturing, distribution and marketing capabilities to Microsoft last year. That means it has the ability to design new phones with Nokia’s iconic touches, but it can’t physically build them and get them into shops.

The partner, therefore, would be the ones putting everything together according to Nokia’s designs and then shipping the phones around the world.

It’s a strategy that’s already worked for the Finnish company, which launched the Nokia N1 tablet with Foxconn, the biggest producer of iPhone.

As for when we’ll see new Nokia phones again, it won’t be before the end of 2016. Part of Nokia’s sale to Microsoft was an agreement that the Finns couldn’t produce any new phones until the fourth quarter of 2016.

While Nokia can’t build a new phone until then, it is free to start designing. That gives the legendary phone maker about 15 months to perfect its next phone before it starts mass producing it with its mystery partner.

We can’t wait to see a new Nokia phone and will, of course, keep you up to date with any news on it. In the meantime, let us know what you want to see in the comments below.
