5 best Windows 10 features to look forward to

There's plenty to look forward to in Microsoft's biggest software upgrade yet.
5 best Windows 10 features to look forward to

Windows 10 is coming to your PC at the end of July, with a release for mobiles expected soon after. It’s a major update for Microsoft, one that it hopes will close the gap to Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS. That begs one question – what do you have to look forward to when your Windows phone gets the update?

1. New wallpapers

One big thing you’ll notice is that wallpapers will look a lot better. Windows 10 now has more transparent live tiles so your wallpaper is actually on show. Plus, when you swipe to get to your full apps list, you’ll see your wallpaper there too.

2. Universal apps

One of the biggest features of Windows 10 is its use of universal apps. This’ll let developers create one app that will work on phone, tablet and PC without any changes to the code. For you and me, that means we should get more apps as developers will be more willing create them knowing they’ll work across all Windows devices.

3. Continuum

This new feature works hand in hand with the universal apps on Windows 10. If you connect your phone to a big screen, like your TV, you’ll automatically be shown the desktop version of Windows 10 so you can make the most of the extra screen space. Of course, you’ll also get the desktop versions of universal apps.

4. New settings

One of our favourite things to come with Windows 10 is a new settings menu. The old mobile one was a nightmare to look through as there was no apparent order. The new menu has just a few options, grouping settings by similar functions. It makes it much faster to find and change what you want.

5. Microsoft Edge

Microsoft is replacing Internet Explorer with Microsoft Edge. It’s got lots of ways to customise your browsing and has a big focus on sharing, note taking and saving stuff for later.
