Yesterday we told you about Binder, a joke app for dumping people in the least personal way possible. To balance out our karma, today we thought we’d take a look at the nicer side of new dating apps with Hero Boyfriend.
Hero Boyfriend is designed to keep your relationship fresh and happy by reminding men to show how much they love their girlfriends.
The app asks five questions about you and your girlfriend and uses that information to send you surprise gift suggestions, prompts to do some housework, creative date ideas and reminders for key events.
But Hero Boyfriend isn’t about telling men that they’re doing everything wrong. It’s meant more as a fitness app for a relationship, giving helpful advice rather than taking complete control.
It’s an idea that the apps founder, Dan Groch, came up with after unwittingly triggering the end of a 12-year relationship. He told news.com.au: “Most guys think they’re doing a great job and girlfriends don’t always tell them what they’re really thinking because they don’t want to feel like they’re nagging, and ... then they get disgruntled.”
Groch also hopes Hero Boyfriend will help solve a problem he thinks the likes of Tinder have created – it’s too easy to end a relationship early and move on.
He said: “The whole digital dating industry is focused on acquisition and nobody is working on retention. It seems crazy. With Tinder, it’s easy for people to just throw you back on the heap and you go back to swiping. It has made finding someone easier, but also less valuable.”
Hero Boyfriend is set to launch in the coming months and you can already sign up for updates on its availability. Unfortunately for all your guys out there with less attentive girlfriends, there’s no word on when Hero Girlfriend will be developed.
