Spotify quietly rolls out Taste Rewind

Take it back now, ya’ll

Music streaming giant, Spotify, has quietly rolled out a new feature allowing users to discover what they would have been listening to if they had lived through decades gone by.

The new feature is available through a dedicated site called Taste Rewind - the ethos being that you will broaden your music taste, and discover some golden oldies in the depths of Spotify’s extensive library.

How does it work?

When you log into the site, you will be asked to select three of your favourite artists - current or otherwise. Once you’re happy, Spotify will take you back in time, showcasing what you would have been listening to in a handful of different decades.

We selected Saint Motel, Caribou and Miami Horror to see what Spotify would dig up. And unsurprisingly it did a superb job, spitting out both big household names, to relatively unheard of acts that totally deserve an extra spin on the internet’s virtual turntable.

On our second attempt with the time machine, it took us all the way back to the ‘20s, so there really is something out there for everyone. Definitely check out Marie Dubas’ ‘L’amour Est Un Jeu’ – it’s a banger.

With so much competition from streaming services like Tidal, Qobuz and recently announced Apple Music, Spotify needs to up its game. Thankfully it remains a massively popular service, but innovation is now more important than ever.

If you’ve got any questions, don’t hesitate to drop us a comment below.
