Cortana coming to Android in July

Google Now has competition

Microsoft's handy personal assistant, Cortana, is being turned into an Android app in July. It’s important to note that it will be a beta version to start off with, meaning you shouldn’t expect a finished and polished experience.

Xbox One owners may be interested to know that Cortana won’t be sticking purely to the mobile phone, but will be venturing onto games, too. So if you’re playing a little Halo and you set a remind earlier in the day, it will be delivered directly to the TV screen.

The move is all set to backup the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft’s new operating system. One of the key aims of the new OS is to connect users’ devices, no matter whether they run on Android, Windows or iOS.

The tech giant has said that an iOS version of Cortana is in the pipeline, but a release date is yet to be confirmed.

What’s so good about Cortana?

Cortana is designed for use with natural, conversational language. So whether you need to know how many calories are in an apple, or just a nudge to remember to walk the dog, Cortana is on hand.

She also tracks real life situations in order to help you plan your day efficiently. For example, if you’re due to board a flight and traffic on the way to the airport is bad, Cortana can override your alarm to make sure you get there on time.
