MWC: BeaWarn child monitor

The premise of the BeaWarn child monitor is fairly simple. It’s a mobile app linked to a connected wrist band that your child wears. As soon as they stray too far away, you’ll get an immediate warning via your smartphone. This may well be the perfect app for stressed out parents looking after kids who have an urge to roam…

Have you ever been out shopping with the family, and turned around to find your kid’s no longer in sight? The sudden jolt of panic and distress is hard to forget. But that’s exactly what BeaWarn promises to help you avoid with this simple yet carefully designed product.

BeaWarn is quick and easy to set up. The wristband needs to be paired to the app on your smartphone through Bluetooth, and that’s all there is to it. Then you’ll get an alert via the app if the wristband, and therefore your child, strays too far away from you.

You can set a distance between anything from five to 40 metres. And even if your troublesome tyke runs off too far for the Bluetooth signal to reach your phone, BeaWarn will alert anyone else with the app when they come in range. This, in turn, alerts your phone of their precise location via the internet.

If BeaWarn really takes off – or even if everyone just downloads the free app – then finding a lost child could become much easier (although still as worrying as ever for mum and dad).

‘Wearables for kids’ seems to be a growing trend here at MWC 2015. Along with the safety features of BeaWarn, we’ve also seen a full smartwatch with kid-friendly design and features…meet the Enerban Miiya smartwatch:

The Enerban Miiya smartwatch is a colourful and robust little device that turns physical activity into fun games. We think it’s a great idea for keeping the kids healthy, in a world where outdoor fun is having to compete with computer games and (ironically perhaps) smart gadgets.
