THE INTERNET OF THINGS
One of the most exciting things to see at MWC 2015 is the advanced smart home tech that promises to control everything in our homes automatically, aka the internet of things.
The problem with most smart tech for the home right now is that you need a different app to control each thing – one app for your Nest Learning Thermostat, another for your Phillips Hue etc. But there are a few companies trying to fix that by creating smart home systems.
One of the best we’ve seen is Fibaro. The Home Centre 2 is a hub that connects to all your smart gadgets around the house, letting you control everything from one very simple app.
And, Fibaro has some state of the art gadgets to make parts of your house a little smarter. The Fibaro Motion Sensor, which looks a bit like the Eye of Sauron from The Lord of the Rings, is a really stylish and advanced automation sensor. It detects motion, temperature and light, alerting you to the likes of intruders, or if your house is too hot or cold.
What’s really clever about the Motion Sensor is that it can automatically turn your lights on and set them perfectly for different people’s preference, or adjust the heating depending on who’s in the room. It’s pretty impressive for something so small and good-looking.
We really like the idea of Fibaro. It seems to cover all the bases and the sensors and automation gadgets that are part of the system are some of the most attractive smart home accessories we’ve seen.
