Samsung Galaxy S6: Best screen ever

Smartphone makers love to markettheir screens – Retina display, Quad HD, TRILUMINOS – but it can be hard to work out what all that really means. Thankfully there’s a company out there that independently tests all these screens to see exactly what’s what. And now DisplayMate has discovered that the Galaxy S6 really does have the best screen ever made.

Their detailed tests applauded the incredibly high resolution screen, saying that its 577 pixels per inch (which, by the way, makes it the sharpest screen ever) really does show more fine detail when looking at photos or reading.

The tests also showed that the Samsung Galaxy S6 has the best screen for use in bright lights. When you try using most phones on a sunny day, for example, the screen is overpowered by the sun. But the Galaxy S6 has the brightest screen ever tested and it’s also one of the least reflective, so you should be able to use it happily throughout the summer.

BETTER COLOURS

The new screen also shows extremely accurate colours that makes things look more realistic. Samsung has a few screen modes that are tuned for different types of content, like photos. In the default Adaptive Display mode, DisplayMate found colours were a little too vivid, but switching to AMOLED Photo mode or Basic mode sorted that out.

DisplayMate did point out that contrast was a little too high. But as far as we can tell, no phone has ever managed to overdo contrast before and we’ve always thought a high contrast screen was a good thing.

Viewing angles are fantastic too, with colours and brightness barely changing as you move around the phone. That’s a really good thing if you have a group of friends huddled round your phone watching a clip on YouTube.

Since 2010, Samsung has created a new world’s-best-screen twice a year every year. It’s an impressive feat that can’t last forever, which means the screen on the Samsung Galaxy S6 must be pretty close to the best screen it’s possible to make.
