EE ranked as best UK network - again

RootMetrics, which prides itself on rigorously testing mobile networks for speed, reliability and coverage, is back with a new report showing EE is still the best network in the UK.

RootMetrics carried out 1 million tests around the country on EE, Three, O2 and Vodafone, checking reliability, speed, mobile internet, calls and texts. And in all five categories, EE averaged the best score.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean EE is the best network for you. RootMetrics’ tests revealed that if you need reliable reception in Scotland or Wales, for example, you should go with Three. In those two countries, Three was able to put through more calls, send more texts and connect to the internet more often than the other networks.

WHERE THE NETWORKS EXCELLED AND FELL

EE

Belfast saw the fastest average mobile internet speeds in the UK at 30Mbps. That’s more than double the average home broadband speed. But for those of you in Hull, speeds were down to 10Mbps. That’s especially surprising as it shows an 11Mbps drop in speed since RootMetrics’ last test six months ago.

THREE

Birmingham had the fastest speeds for those of you on Three. But Belfast had the most reliable mobile connection. Hull was the big problem area again, with poor average speed and reliability scores.

O2

If you’re on O2, Nottingham is the place to go for the fastest mobile internet, while Manchester will give you the most reliable reception. Yet again, you could have problems using your phone in Hull where speeds and reliability are both scored low. And Cardiff isn’t much better for O2.

VODAFONE

Liverpool and Nottingham are the places to be if you use Vodafone. Liverpool is the network’s most reliable city and Nottingham is the fastest. As with the other networks, Hull lags well behind the rest of the country in both speed and reliability.

Overall, RootMetrics found that the mobile networks are improving across the UK. All of them have seen increases in their average speed and reliability, which is good news for all of us who use a mobile.
