The HTC One M9 has arrived, a year after the HTC One M8 wowed us with its chic design. So let’s see how they compare.
The first thing you’ll notice is the even more stylish design of the One M9. It’s a bit thinner than the One M8, and has new mirror-finished edges that add a splash of variety to the smooth metal body.
On the back of the One M9 there’s a new look square camera that we’re not sure whether to describe as modern or slightly retro. This rear camera weighs in at 20 megapixels, much more than the 4 UltraPixel camera on the One M8.
But HTC hasn’t ditched UltraPixel technology altogether. It’s now round the front. Having a selfie camera that lets in three times more light than a normal camera is great. Photos are always bright, and as we’re not used to selfies being any bigger than 5MP, you don’t notice a lack of sharpness like you did when the UltraPixel camera was on the back of the One M8.
There’s also been a massive step up in performance. The new One M9 comes with a much faster processor than the One M8. Even though this new processor does things quicker, it actually uses less power. So you can get things done quicker on the One M9 and charge it less.
The screen on the One M9 is exactly the same 5-inch Full HD display we liked a lot on the M8, so we’re more than happy with that.
And we’re pleased to see the familiar BoomSound stereo speakers on the One M9. But HTC has now teamed up with Dolby so the speakers on the One M9 can create virtual surround sound – something the One M8 can’t do.
We think the HTC One M9 was worth the wait. All these improvements over the One M8 make it a much better phone.
