Valentine’s Day sucks. Don’t believe what you read elsewhere about planning the perfect Valentine’s Day or getting top tips for Valentine’s Day if you’re single, let’s embrace the fact that we’re anti-Valentine’s and enjoy the day itself. It’s not going to be easy, but it might just be possible with some app-inspired help.

Just because you’re anti-Valentine’s doesn’t mean you’ve got to miss out on the ritual of card-giving and receiving on 14 February. Zazzle has some great cards with some lovely messages, including ‘Love stinks’, ‘Valentine’s Day is stupid’, ‘Valentine schmalentine’ and ‘ I hope Cupid dies a horrible death’.

In ‘Spaced’, one of our favourite sitcoms of all time, Tim reacted to the end of his relationship by playing one of the Tomb Raider games in a rather unorthodox fashion. You can do this same if you have an iPhone or iPad:
The first game in the classic Tomb Raider series unleashed the gravity defying awesomeness of Lara Croft onto an unsuspecting world. Play it any way you want.

Being anti-Valentine’s doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors on 14 February. It’s the weekend after all. If you want to catch the type of gig where smooching couples are frowned upon, the Bandsintown app is your best bet.
Bandsintown is a free live concert discovery app that lets you track your favourite bands or artists, and get email notifications when they’ve got an upcoming gig in your area. It scans your music libraries to learn who you’re a fan of, and who to keep a track of on your behalf. So if you haven’t got any love songs on your playlist, you’re unlikely to receive an invite to the next James Blunt concert.
Android (FREE) / iOS (FREE) / Windows Phone (FREE)
If you make it back home from the gig before midnight, and want to end the day listening to a suitably loveless soundtrack, why not make the most of Spotify and create your own playlist? If you’re stuck for inspiration, here are a few suggestions:
J. Geils Band – Love Stinks
Ugly Kid Joe – I Hate Everything About You
Kelis – Caught Out There (I Hate You So Much Right Now)
Fleetwood Mac – Go Your Own Way
R.E.M – The One I Love (don’t worry, this isn’t an actual love song)
We hope we’ve given you a few ideas to help you plan your Anti-Valentine’s Day. If you’ve any other suggestions for helpful apps – or songs to add to our playlist – please share your thoughts below.
