Do you know how much data you're using?
Whenever you access the internet through your smartphone, you’re using data. But do you know how much downloading, web browsing or video streaming you can do with 1GB of data? Here's our guide to help you manage your data allowance...
Browse 3,000 webpages
If you used every bit of your 1GB of data to look at webpages, you’d be able to see around 3,000 webpages. The size of a single webpage varies though. If you view very plain webpages with mainly text, you could view more. If you like webpages that are full of high resolution images, you’ll be able to view a little less.
Send 1,500,000 WhatsApp messages
WhatsApp messages are really, really small when it comes to how much data they use. With 1GB of data spent just on WhatsApp, you could send over 1.5 million messages. If you send images or videos a lot you’ll use a little more data, but you’ll definitely be able to say as much as you want to everyone you know.
If you're struggling with the amount of data you have at the moment, maybe it's time to upgrade.
Upload 4,000 photo
Whether you’re in love with Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or have your own blog, you’ll be able to upload over 130 photos a day for an entire month with 1GB data. Larger photos will use a bit more data, but for general social media, you’ll have enough data to share whatever you want.
Send 10,000 emails
When it comes to emails, you’ll be able to send 10,000 with an entire gigabyte of data. That’s work emails, messages to friends and more. Emails with images or large attachments will bring that figure down a bit, as will forwarding on lots of particularly long emails.
Watch 310 minutes of YouTube
A gigabyte of data gives you over five hours of watching time on YouTube. This means you can view over 70 music videos back to back with ease. If you watch all your videos in very high quality you’ll use more data, so be careful when steaming lots of YouTube videos. The higher the quality, the more data you’ll use.

Listen to 160 songs on Spotify
Don’t need the music video? Just download the songs instead. 160 songs is about 10 hours of nonstop music. Music downloaded uses the same amount as streaming, so you can stream 160 songs if you prefer. Apps like Spotify and Deezer are perfect for this as they give you unlimited streaming.
Now you know how much you can do with 1GB, it might be worth looking at a larger package. How about 30GB?
