The next flagship phone from Sony is coming soon. No details have been confirmed about what it might be just yet, but that hasn’t stopped rumours from circulating. We’ve rounded up the best of them here. Just one note though – as these are just rumours at the moment, it’s possible that not all of these things will actually happen. We’ll just have to wait and see!
“Sony has organised an event for the 30th of August at the IFA 2018 expo in Berlin – a show where it's unveiled phones in the past.” T3
“The launch date for Sony's new smartphone is expected to be 30 August at the company's press conference at IFA 2018, the annual Berlin tech show.” Expert Reviews
“The resolution of the screen will apparently be 3840x1920…which,while greater than most current Sony devices, would make it less pixel heavy than the display found on the Xperia XZ2 Premium.” The Inquirer
“One thing all these leaks can agree on…is that the phone is unlikely to come sporting a display notch like many of the other flagship handsets released in 2018.” Trusted Reviews
“Another… leak from July suggested that the handset will…sport a single sensor on its rear. Before you write off the handset’s potential as a camera phone, however, the leak also suggested that the sensor would include a massive 47MP of detail, which is massive for a phone.” Trusted Reviews
“On the other hand, a more recent leak suggests a single 48-megapixel back camera instead, and it matches up with the new IMX586 mobile sensor that Sony just recently announced.” Stuff.tv
Under the hood
“[Leaks also mention] a 5.7-inch 1080 x 2160 screen, an octa-core Snapdragon chipset, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and a 12MP front-facing camera.” TechRadar
“The Snapdragon 845 is in attendance, as expected of a 2018 flagship phone, as is 6GB of RAM, the choice between 64GB and 128GB of storage, and support for MicroSD cards up to 400GB. The battery is also larger than the XZ2, but not by much.” Digital Trends
“Look out for a mention of 5G in the advertising materials when the phone does appear, because it's being tipped to be the first 5G-enabled handset to hit the market.” T3
“Turning to the battery and we have a leaked figure of 3240mAh. This is a slight increase over the Xperia XZ2 (at 3180mAh), but smaller than the XZ2 Premium (at 3540mAh).” Pocket-lint
Are you looking forward to the next Sony phone?
So, taking the rumours with a pinch of salt, we can expect the new Sony phone to be unveiled at the end of August.
It supposedly won’t have a notch-like design on its display – as has been a recent trend – and it could have a 48MP camera for awesome shots in low light, packed full of detail. Once again, remember that these are rumours for now. There’s not long to go until we find out how much of the above is true.
