We explore the tips and tricks to make your S9 more… you.
Personalise your Galaxy S9
Meet the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ coming soon to Carphone Warehouse

The Samsung Galaxy S9 is one of the standout phones of the year, and we’re still totally in love with the thing. It’s packed with great features, a beaut of a camera and a knockout display.

Once you’ve got your hands on it, there’s plenty you can do with it – and lots of ways you can personalise your phone, as we explain below.

Light up your edges

Just like all Galaxy phones, the S9 has an Edge screen, and you can make those edges light up when you get a call or message. So, you could have your phone faced down, and never miss a message.

All you need to do to set it up is go to settings and select Edge screen, then choose Edge lighting, and pick the lighting you want and when to see it (which notifications will light up your sides).

Great sound, the way you want it

The S9 has incredible sound quality, thanks to Dolby Atmos surround sound onboard. Make it even better by customising your listening experience. Just go to settings, then select ‘Sounds and Vibration’. Tap ‘Sound quality and effects’, then choose between Auto, Voice, Movies or Music.

What’s the difference between them, we hear you ask. Well, the movie setting is best for watching your favourite shows and films. The music setting makes audio sound richer and more balanced. voice makes speech sound loud and clear. Selecting auto gives your S9 the power to choose what will work the best.

Activate the always on display

With the always on display, you can always see the time and any notifications. Here’s how you do it: go to settings, then lock screen, then security. Choose ‘Always on display’ and switch it on. Done. Then, you can decide whether ‘always on’ is, er, always on – or at a set time, when you’re at work, for example.

Get brighter, richer videos

Make already-great videos on your super AMOLED display even better by activating the video enhancer mode. Start at settings, then tap Advanced features and scroll down to video enhancer.

Your home screen, your way

Long-press on the wallpaper on your home screen, and you can edit your wallpaper, widgets and shortcuts. Alter the size of the screen grid, depending on how close together you want everything to be. you want the home screen to be. Once you’ve long-pressed the wallpaper, choose "home screen settings". You can choose from 4x6, 5x5 and 5x6. You can then resize your widgets, customise your navigation bar, create folders and so much more.

When it comes to personalising your new S9, this just scratches the surface. If you have any other tips or tricks, don’t keep them to yourself. Share them below the line!
