Tips to stay entertained on flight mode

You’re over the bumpy take-off and have a painfully overpriced panini to look forward to – but now you’re wondering how you’re going to keep yourself entertained when your phone’s in flight mode. Don’t panic - buckle up with some, or all, of our in-flight entertainment tips.

Create an offline playlist

If you’re a member of Spotify, iTunes Music, Amazon Music or Google Play Music – you can easily create your very own playlist and download it to play offline. Don’t want to go without music for a second? You can keep track of how long each playlist is and accurately time it to last for your entire flight.

Pocket some articles

While you can’t cruise your Twitter feed when you’re airborne, you can catch up on articles you haven’t got around to reading yet, thanks to Pocket.

Pocket, the browser extension and its companion app allow you to flip through articles to read offline later. Before you go on Airplane Mode, launch your Pocket app, let it refresh with the latest cache of reading material you’ve saved, sit back and enjoy your own customised digital magazine.

Download Pocket on iOS and Android now.

Download a boxset

Nothing kills a bit of time quite like an addictive boxset. And with the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime now offering a download option on a selection of movies and TV shows, you can blitz your way through your latest obsession.

Make sure you’ve got enough flight time ahead of you before starting the next episode, though. You don’t want the last 15minutes of an edge-of-your-seat finale clashing with your landing.

Have a clear out

We’re far too busy in our day-to-day lives to give our phones a proper tidy up – so why not have a clear out when you’re strapped in? Take the rare opportunity to delete old unwanted photos, videos, apps, contacts, messages, and playlists on music streaming apps that you don’t need anymore.

Too attached to all of your precious files? Refresh your wallpaper or theme, organise your apps into folders, or just clear your call or browser history. A lot of these things will free up a little extra space on your phone – more room for those holiday snaps and videos.

Listen to a podcast

If it’s early and you’d rather have your eyes shut while being entertained, a podcast is the way to go. There are thousands of free ones to choose from. You could even kill two birds with one stone by listening to a podcast about the destination you’re travelling to. That way you’ll be well versed and ready for exploring by the time you land.

How do you plan on keeping entertained on your next flight? Have we missed any crucial activities off the list? Share in the comments below.
