5 ways to save on your broadband bill

Get the best deal for your broadband

A little research can go a long way, especially when it comes to getting the best deal on your broadband. Have an inkling you might be paying too much and want to reduce your bill? Or are you looking for a brand new package altogether? Then here are the top 5 things to think about.

1. Compare all the best deals

If only there was a tool you could use to compare all of the best deals on offer from the leading networks. Oh wait, Carphone Warehouse’s online broadband comparison feature is exactly that…

This handy and powerful tool lets you see how the likes of Virgin, Sky, TalkTalk, Pop, Plusnet and the Post Office’s Internet services all stack up against each other. Enter your postcode, and you’ll be able to see what’s available in your local area.

Similar to mobile phone coverage, a lot of internet services work better depending on your location. So it’s also worth checking out the strength in your area before you commit to a provider.

2. Save a bundle with a bundle

Those who have different services from different providers could benefit from opting for one bundle. Let’s say you have your internet provided by one company, and a TV package supplied by another… this could end up costing you more.

Most companies offer broadband and TV together in one bundle at a discounted rate. This is because they want to be your sole provider. So it’s definitely worth checking out what bundles you can get and how the value compares to cherry picking deals from different providers.

4. Know your limits

It pays to understand what you use the internet for most. Do you stream and download? Or are you more of a browser? If you’re not really sure, you can always ask your provider about your usage.

Maybe you’re a light user with who doesn’t need Fibre broadband. In this case, you can downgrade to a cheaper, capped service. And likewise, if you’re a household of heavy users, moving up to unlimited broadband could save you money.

3. Go broadband only

Ask yourself whether you actually need a landline phone. With the vast majority opting to use the inclusive minutes of their mobile phone contracts, the need for a home phone is growing less and less.

Virgin is actually one of the few providers to offer a ‘broadband only’ contract. This means no line rental, which equals cheaper monthly costs.

5. When in doubt, switch

Let’s face it, switching supplier can be a bit of a hassle but in some cases, sticking with the same provider can be expensive.

In fact, some bills increase when a contact is rolled over. That’s why it’s always worth checking whether a competitor has a better more cost friendly offer for you.
