The latest operating system update from Apple
In case you missed it, Apple has recently lifted the curtain on what we can all expect from the sequel to iOS 10, aptly named, iOS 11. This is what you need to know…
Big news for iPad owners
iOS 11 is set to revolutionise how the iPad works, effectively making it a laptop killer. Multitasking is something tablets have often struggled with, despite their larger displays, but Apple is now ready to tackle that problem head on.
Drag and drop, just like you would on a computer, is here. Split screen tech has been present on smartphones and tablets for a while, but being able to interact with both windows at the same time hasn’t. Now you’ll be able to pulls photos, texts, hyperlinks and other media from one place to another.
Apple jumps on AR
Augmented reality is quickly becoming the talking point in the tech world, following the excitement around Microsoft’s currently very expensive headset, HoloLens.
Another big announcement was around iMessage. Apple will now save all your iMessages in the cloud, freeing up space on both your iPad and iPhone. It also means you’ll be able to access them anywhere.
Siri is better than ever
Chatting to Siri is going to sound a lot more natural very soon, as Apple has given the AI the ability pronounce the same way with different intonations. It’s also going to be getting better translations, using deep learning. If you need help with directions on holiday, just ask Siri.
The refreshed App Store
You can expect to see a big change to the design of Apple’s App Store. Apple claims the new look is ‘designed for discovery’ in an effort to make downloading apps an exciting event, as it once was.
When is iOS 11 released?
We can expect the new version of Apple's OS to land in the Autumn sometime, but developer programmes are available to download now.
