The Prodigal Son returns
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past month, you’ll have heard that Nokia has reincarnated its iconic 3310. The original was released in the year 2000, costing £150 - which is about £230 in today’s money – and it was great.
Because there’s such a shared fondness for the beloved 3310s, the comeback has been quite exciting – even in the age of the smartphone. And of course, we’re big fans, too. So, if you’re yet to explore the new-old mobile – we’ve got five reasons why you should.
1. Obvious nostalgia
Clearly, there’s the pure retro factor. There have been some updates to the phone to make sure it works in our device-centric world, but on the face of it, the design has remained largely untouched.
There’s now a micro USB connector to make sure you can power it up with a charger you no doubt already own, and space for a microSD card, which can expand storage up to 32GB.
2. Battery for days
Nowadays, we struggle to get more than a day from our smartphones’ batteries, but the 3310 isn’t a power-hungry Netflix and Spotify-binging machine. Instead, it offers a more classic approach to mobile – with texts, calls and a low-powered lens if you need to snap the odd photo.
Nokia claims the 1,200mAh battery will last up to 31 days on standby, and can be used to chat to friends and family for 22 hours. Perfect for festivals, or when you know your smartphone won’t last a couple of nights away from home.
3. Snake’s back
Snake has returned, but not quite as you’ll remember it. The premise is still the same, but he can now move more than four directions, which you control by using the 4 and 6 keys. Although the game has been colourised, it features a classic arcade-like charm, and we can’t wait for the high score competitions to begin all over again.
4. Bulletproof
Okay, it’s not technically resilient to gunfire, but it’s a damn sight more sturdy than most smartphones. If the 3310 accidentally gets knocked off the table, you can breath a sigh of relief knowing there’ll never be a need for costly screen repairs.
5. Now available with 3G
The 3310 is now available with 3G, so you can always stay connected no matter what (in stores now). Keep up to date with the latest news, your team’s final score, and your Facebook feed straight from the homescreen. Check out our online deals by heading over to Carphone Warehouse's website.
