Apps to help you get through Christmas Day

Sure, roasting chestnuts on an open fire is a great activity for a Christmas song, but when it comes to keeping your brood entertained this Christmas it’s going to take a bit more than that. Also, who actually has open fires these days?

Once all the board games have been exhausted and everything on telly’s a turkey, here are some top apps to keep the whole family amused on 25 December:

Elf Yourself

iOS and Android

The best selling app of the Christmas Season, Elf Yourself, lets you upload up to five photos of you, your friends, family and anyone else from your camera roll. Select a dance theme and watch as you and your loved ones burst out into a festive jig – making for minutes if not hours of hilarious entertainment.

A Call From Santa!

iOS and Android

Amaze your kids with a personalised phone call from Father Christmas. You can even send the big man a text and get an instant reply. Just enter your child’s name and the app will cleverly create personalised responses. Choose from a selection of voicemails, which let you know what Santa’s up to, gives you info on the weather forecast in the North Pole, and recalls the names of his reindeer.

Holiday Charades!

iOS and Android

Charades is a crowd pleaser at any shindig. Choose from over 45 themed decks, with over 100 exciting gameplay cards. So whether you’re a famous artist, singer, actor or scientist, there’s something for all the family.

Just Dance Now!

iOS and Android

Celebrate the festivities with a good old-fashioned family dance-off. The Just Dance Now! app doesn’t require any other gadgets. Simply use your smartphone as a controller, and get down to much-loved hits like Uptown Funk, Let It Go and Gangnam Style.

Monopoly Here & Now

iOS and Android

Monopoly has always been a bit of a Christmas staple. Up the ante with Monopoly Here & Now: the newest version of the board game outside the box. This globetrotting variation of a classic features a 3D board and game pieces that come to life. Gather the family round and play on the big screen via your Chromecast device.
