9 must-see apps for Samsung Gear VR

The best of virtual reality for your Samsung Gear VR headset

2016 is the year of virtual reality. Folks have been saying it for years, but this time it’s for real. So, to get you set up, we’ve scoured the web for the best VR apps to use with your Samsung Gear VR.

Samsung VR Theatre

Enjoy your own private theatre, a zero gravity cinema experience on the moon, or an ant’s eye view of a screening at the bottom of the garden.

Relax in a luxurious ski lodge to enjoy all your favourite Netflix series’ and films on a giant virtual screen.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

Who said VR is a solitary experience? In this innovative game, you can see the bomb that needs defusing, while your friends have the instructions. Work together to figure out the puzzle before it’s too late.

EVE Gunjack

A premium first-person shooter from the guys that brought you EVE Valkyrie. In this game you’re a space pilot, and you have to defend the mining craft from pretty much everything that moves.

Face Your Fears

A 360-degree experience designed to pit you against your biggest phobias. From vertigo to bedtime horror stories, this app is not for the faint-hearted.

In keeping with the horror theme, Within’s Catatonic experience puts you in the mind of a wheelchair-bound patient who’s being introduced his new home in a haunted mental asylum.

A colourful animation in which you, a cute white bunny, are the first thing invading aliens meet on their visit to Earth. From the director of 2005 animation, Madagascar.

A collection of apps in its own right, with 360-degree musical performances from the likes of Paul McCartney, Jack White, and Fantastic Negrito. Headphones are a must, as the music moves with you as you turn your head.

Compose music in VR while sitting in your own digital studio. Select different loops and samples from the board in front of you to build electro tracks.

How to download Gear VR apps

Downloading all these apps is really straightforward. Once you've got the Oculus mobile app on your smartphone, simply browse to content in front of you and tap 'download'. Make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi, as they'll considerably eat into your data allowance otherwise.
