Top wearable tech of CES 2016

Wearables are on the up and up, and Samsung certainly knows it. Here are a few of our favourite wearables from this year’s Consumer Electronics Show.

Huawei Watch Jewel and Elegant

This one’s for the ladies. Following massive hype surrounding the Huawei Watch unveiled at MWC in 2015, there’s finally a more feminine variant – two in fact.

Jewel and Elegant have been created with a little help from Swarovski Zirconia - the former featuring 68 small stones around the watch’s circular face. The Elegant doesn’t come across quite as classy, with a knurled patterning around the face, but is still a very good-looking watch all the same. Both timepieces feature genuine leather straps and a 2 ‘clock crown.

Both watches run Android Wear’s OS and are expected to hit markets in March.

Samsung TipTalk

As we mentioned above, Samsung has really hit the ground running with its wearables range this year, and one of our favourites is something called Samsung TipTalk (pictured in header).

This seemingly futuristic gadget make your classic wrist watch smart, tracking fitness and alerting the wearer to incoming messages. It’s most notable feature however, is its ability to let you take calls by pressing your finger on your ear. The technology works by sending vibrations through your wrist and up your index finger.

Could this spell bad news for the smartphone? Only time will tell.

L’Oréal My UV patch

When thinking about the emerging wearable market, L’Oréal probably isn’t the first company to spring to mind. But the beauty giant has produced something worth talking about – a smart skin patch.

The My UV patch tracks the skin’s exposure to UV rays and then relays the information to your smartphone through an app. Over the course of its approximate five-day lifespan, the colours change depending on how much exposure you’re getting. And, by taking a photo of the patch within the app, you’ll be able to determine what the changing colours mean.

Currently the technology only works with iOS, but when an Android version is released, it’ll work with NFC - allowing you to simply tap your phone on the sticker and be delivered the results.

Casio Smart Outdoor Watch WSD-F10

It may not be the catchiest title of all time, but it’s definitely worth a mention. The gigantic Casio Smart Outdoor Watch runs on Android Wear, is water resistant up to 50m and features a pressure sensor, compass and accelerometer.

The headline, however, has got to be its amazing battery life. It’s smart-ness can be turned on and off, leaving you with a run-of-the-mill watch, extending battery life to over a month.
