The Samsung Gear Fit was a surprise from Samsung. No one knew it was coming. The advanced fitness band isn’t just super stylish, it offers some excellent fitness tracking features too. Here are the answers to the questions we’re being asked most.
How long does the battery last?
We were quite impressed with the battery life and got around three days of normal use out of it. If you’re planning on running marathons with it though, the battery life will be significantly shorter.
Is the coach feature effective?
It works well. Goals can be set for time and distance, and the watch vibrates when you’re going too fast or too slow. The screen also tells you how you’re doing. We’d have loved a speaker for audio motivations and notifications, but you’ll always feel the vibrations and it only takes a second to check what the coach is telling you.
How accurate is the heart rate monitor?
The Gear Fit takes about 10 seconds to start recording your heart rate. It seems pretty accurate when it’s activated. The screen displays your heart rate on the screen too, so it’s easy to keep track of.
Can I make calls from the Fit?
No. Without a microphone there’s no support for voice calls with the Fit. You can reject calls and send a selection of texts though, so whoever rung knows you’re busy.
Does it have voice recognition?
There’s no microphone on the Gear Fit so no, voice recognition is not supported.
Is it easy to swap the strap?
The Gear Fit separates from the strap pretty easily, but it’s not loose enough that it’ll fall out. Swapping the straps is definitely something you could do on a daily basis if you like.
Is it really that water resistant?
It really is. To be awarded IP67 certification the Fit has to be officially tested. This means it will last for 30 minutes in water up to 1 metre deep. Winter runs and getting caught in the rain won’t be a problem.
Is it annoying that the screen is at a funny angle?
To begin with it is a little odd, yes, but you’ll get used to holding your wrist out at the right angle pretty quickly. While it might not be the best design for ease of use, the screen looks superb and the design and comfortable fit would be ruined if the screen was at a different angle.
Which devices are compatible with the Gear Fit?
Right now the Samsung Gear Fit is compatible with 18 types of device models. This list will be added to throughout the year: Samsung Galaxy S5 Samsung Galaxy Grand 2, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, Samsung Galaxy S4 Active,Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8, Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition), Samsung Galaxy NotePRO 12.2, Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 12.2, Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 10.1, Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 8.4.
