HTC One M8 Duo Camera

The HTC One M8 has a unique camera with two sensors, called the Duo Camera.

The Duo Camera on the HTC One (M8) is unique. It uses one camera lens to take a photo while the other records depth information so you can create some cool effects that you’d normally need an expensive DSLR camera for. And it’s really easy to use as the phone automatically uses Duo Camera.

What does the Duo Camera let you do?

There are three effects that are possible with the Duo Camera: uFocus, Dimension Plus and Copy & Paste. uFocus lets you create an effect called Bokeh, where things in the foreground or background of a photo are out of focus. It gives everything a really professional look. Dimension Plus lets you add unique 3D-like effects so you feel like you can see round the sides of the things you’ve photographed. Finally, Copy & Paste lets you copy a person from one photo and paste them into another, like a really simple Photoshop.

How do I use the Duo Camera effects?

All you need to do is take a photo as normal, making sure the scene’s set to auto, that the flash is off and that you’re not zoomed in. Then you just view the photo in the gallery, tap effects in the bottom left and hit whichever effect you want to use. It’s that simple to get unique photos.

How good are the photos taken with the HTC One (M8)?

We’re really impressed with the HTC One (M8) camera. The Duo Camera is great, but even without adding the cool effects, you can get some really nice, sharp photos. That’s because the One (M8) uses HTC’s own 4MP sensor with UltraPixel technology. UltraPixels are three times bigger than standard pixels, which lets in a lot more light so you get brighter photos with better colours. We found that some photos look a bit overexposed, but it’s really easy to lower the exposure value (EV) in the camera’s menu.
