How do I know when it’s time to upgrade?
You can upgrade at the end of your existing contract.
You might also be able to upgrade before the end of your contract, depending on your network.

Can I upgrade early?
Yes, you can sometimes upgrade before your current contract ends, depending on your current network.

What happens when I upgrade early?
It all depends on how early you’re upgrading. Quite often there’s no fee to upgrade early – you just begin paying your new contract amount, and enjoying your brand new phone.
Sometimes, however, you may need to pay a small fee. This usually happens if you upgrade at the earliest possible moment.
Your new contract will also be longer. This is because the time left on your old contract is added to your new contract. So for example, if you upgrade one month early and begin a new 24 month contract, your new contract will actually last 25 months.

Can I upgrade through Carphone Warehouse if I didn’t buy my phone and contract from you?
Yes. As long as it’s time for your upgrade, we can sort it out.
Do I need to talk to my network before upgrading?
No, we’ll take care of it all for you.

Can I keep my MOBILE number?
Yes. If you’ve already got a monthly contract we’ll automatically swap your number to your new phone when you upgrade.
If you’re using a phone on pay as you go, and want to upgrade to a contract, you’ll need to get a PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) first of all. Your network will be able to give this to you, so just give them a quick phone call. Take a look at this article to find out more about PACs and keeping your number.
Do I need to pass a new credit check to upgrade?
No. However, your old credit check might affect the deals you can upgrade to.
For example, if your previous credit check limited you to less expensive contracts, you might not be able to upgrade to more expensive ones this time around.
Step by step, what happens when I upgrade?
First of all, find out when you can upgrade. Use our Upgrade Checker to see if you can upgrade right now. If you can’t, sign-up to our Upgrade Reminder Service and we’ll let you know as soon as you’re eligible.
Now it’s the fun part! Choose your new smartphone, and find a contract that suits you the best. Or you might want to do it the other way round – find your ideal contract first, and then look at the phones that are available.
Then you’ll just need to give us a few details, so we can check your old contract and use your existing bank details to set up your new one.
And when you’ve confirmed your delivery address, we’ll deliver your brand new smartphone and SIM to your door.
And that’s all there is to it. You now have a shiny new smartphone to enjoy. Congratulations!
