Our toughest drop test video yet

There’s no denying it, Tech21 makes the best slim impact-resistant cases in the world. Last year we proved it by dropping a Samsung Galaxy S5 from a 5-metre (16.4 feet) climbing wall, a fall the phone and case survived without a scratch.

Now this year, Tech21 has come out with a new and improved impact-resistant material, FlexShock. So we needed to find somewhere even more challenging to test this new case.

We scoured the Yellow Pages until we found the Vertical Chill ice climbing wall in Covent Garden, London. This 8-metre (26.25 feet) tall wall of ice would be the perfect place to push Tech21’s FlexShock to the limit.

Vertical Chill

Before filming, Tech21 told us that its recommended maximum drop height for the new case is 2-metres (6.6 feet), or about the same as a basketball player dropping their phone while making a call. We were about to go four times higher.

Not only would the case have to protect a HTC One M9 from a harrowing fall, it would need to handle temperatures of -10°C. In the freezing cold, we couldn’t know if the usually flexible FlexShock would harden and lose its impressive shock-absorption powers.

So how did the new Tech21 case do? Watch the video below to see if the HTC One M9 survived the drop test.
