How does the latest mini phone from Samsung hold up?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini review

Much like the largerSamsung Galaxy S4, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is full of handy little tricks and features. Its smaller size makes it easier to use though, and it’s much friendlier on your wallet.

DESIGN

The rounded and smooth body is just like a scaled down S4, so we like how the S4 Mini looks. Our favourite feature though is the wide choice of colours it’s available in. Few phones can match them!

CAMERA

Picture quality and speed are good with the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, and there are some nice extra settings. We like Sound&Shot, which stores sounds alongside a photo, and Panorama Shot, which gives some really impressive wide angled shots.

ENTERTAINMENT

With its 4.3” screen the S4 Mini is good for videos, but there are some nice features that really help the screen colours to shine. Our favourite is the one that automatically adjusts things like colour and contrast depending on what you’re looking at for the best results, called Adapt Display. You can also manually change settings to have the screen jut as you like it.

PRODUCTIVITY

You’ll find Polaris Office 5 on the S4 Mini, a useful little app that lets you open and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. We also found the text prediction on the keyboard to be spookily accurate.

Available in black, black edition, pink, purple, white, orange

BATTERY

The battery on the S4 Mini lasts for around a day and half if you’re using occasionally. If you’re a heavy user, you can get a spare battery and just swap out the empty one for a fresh one.

UNIQUE FEATURES

If you’re into languages or travel a lot, the S Translator app will be great. You can type into the app or just speak to it for translations. It’ll do loads of languages including French, Spanish, German, Chinese and translate them all back into English, or vice versa. It’ll translate words from inside apps like the email app too. Very handy.
