Meet the Huawei Ascend G7

While we were at the IFA tech show in Berlin, Huawei announced the Huawei Ascend G7. Big and stylish with a brilliant selfie camera and battery, Carphone Warehouse will be ranging it in a few weeks. Let’s take a closer look.

The first thing we noticed with the G7 was the big screen. At 5.5” it’s going to be good for videos, but the phone isn’t too thick, so it’s still fairly easy to hold. Huawei has actually raised the screen up a little above the frame, so the images seem to pop out a bit. Hard to explain, but it looks very striking in real life. The back of the phone is metal, so it feels and looks very high end.

Lots of phones are now more focused on selfies, with many in recent months sporting improved front facing cameras. The Ascend G7 is no different, and the 5MP snapper gives really nice details. We really like the panorama feature which lets you take really wide photos, giving you selfies that include lots of friends or scenery.

One of the more interesting things about the G7 is the Smart dual-antenna with smart switching. In short, it improves the reception of the phone by switching between receives in the top and bottom of the phone. No more reception black spots and missed calls.

Inside the G7 is really big battery, 3,000mAh to be exact, good enough for up to 25 days on standby. But, if you get caught without a charger in hand, smart energy-saving technology allows your battery to operate for another 24 hours with just 10% of remaining power.
