What makes the Huawei Mate 10 Pro so special?

The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is available to buy from Carphone Warehouse right now. We think it’s a stunning smartphone with a lot to offer.

But if you’ve already got a Huawei Mate 9, is it worth switching to the Mate 10 Pro? Will you notice many differences? You’ll find the answers below…

Design and display

The Mate 9 is an attractive phone, with a full-metal body and huge 5.9-inch display. But the Mate 10 Pro looks even more premium, with its aluminium frame coated in glass for a glossy finish.

Even though the Mate 10 Pro’s 6-inch display is larger than the Mate 9’s, it’s actually a smaller phone. That’s all down to some clever design work and slim bezels.

The Full HD AMOLED display on the Mate 10 Pro shows really vibrant colours and seriously deep blacks. When you compare it with the Mate 9’s standard LCD display, you can really tell the difference.

Camera

The Mate 9 has a great dual lens camera, with 12MP and 20MP lenses co-crafted by camera legends Leica for pin-sharp photography.

The Mate 10 Pro’s camera continues the relationship with Leica, and has almost the same specs as the Mate 9 but with one crucial difference – the aperture. It’s larger than the Mate 9’s, so it lets in more light for better night-time shots. And with the help of built-in artificial intelligence, the camera app recognises what you’re taking a picture of and adjusts its settings to give you the best image.

Under the hood

Inside the Mate 9 you’ll find a Kirin 960 chipset, supported by 4GB RAM and a massive 4,000mAh battery.

The Mate 10 Pro has exactly the same size battery as the Mate 9, but it’s actually longer lasting as it uses artificial intelligence to allocate power more effectively. It’s also running the latest Kirin 970 chipset with 6GB RAM, so it’s faster and more efficient.

Added extras

The Mate 10 Pro comes with the added option of being used as a desktop PC. Connect it to a monitor with a suitable cable, and it goes into desktop mode. You can even plug in a keyboard and mouse for the full PC experience.

Our verdict

The Mate 9 is only a year old, and it’s a premium phone with impressive specifications. But if you want a next level handset, the Mate 10 Pro is the one you need. It’s packed with groundbreaking features, and uses the very latest in artificial intelligence and camera technology to give you a unique smartphone experience.
