13 funny things to ask Alexa

Hey Alexa, make us laugh

If you’ve got a new device with Alexa built in, no doubt you’ll have been bombarding her with questions and commands already. From ordering pizza to playing your favourite songs, there are loads of useful skills Alexa can carry out on your behalf - read more about them here: Discover Alexa’s new skills

Alexa is incredibly useful, there’s no doubt about it. But she’s also great at answering pointless questions too, and has a pretty wicked sense of humour. Here are a few of our favourites for you to enjoy:

1. Do you dream?

Ask Alexa this and she’ll usually come up with a science-fiction based reply.

2. Are you a robot?

Alexa doesn’t think of herself a robot, but she’s definitely not human.

3. Where do you live?

Expect a cloud-based answer to this one.

4. What does Jon Snow know?

Alexa knows enough about Game of Thrones to know how little Jon Snow knows. If you get what we mean.

5. Can you tell me a tongue twister?

Alexa knows a few tongue twisters, and she never seems to stumble over her words.

6. Can you sing?

Alexa has one song in her repertoire, and it begins: “Your circuits are fused, you’re feeling confused.” It’s no classic, but it does sound strangely like a Lily Allen song.

7. Can you beatbox?

Yes, she can, and she's not too bad at it.

8. Can you rap?

Alexa is more than happy to spit a few lyrics. She seems to be a big fan of classic rap - if you tell her you’ve got 99 problems, she’ll respond with a nice little pun.

9. Can you talk like Yoda?

Try her best to do this, she will.

10. Can you make me a sandwich?

Spoiler alert: Alexa can’t actually make you a sandwich. So she cracks a joke instead.

11. What have the Romans ever done for us?

Alexa recognises a lot of Monty Python questions. Ask her this one, for example, and she responds in a way that all Life of Brian fans will appreciate.

12. What is the value of Pi?

Alexa will tell you the approximate value of Pi to around 21 decimal places before she starts to lose interest.

13. Do you know Cortana?

Don’t expect Alexa to say anything controversial about any of her rivals. She’s much too polite.
