Why you should upgrade to a smartphone

Smartphones give you internet access while you’re on the move, letting you check emails, play games and browse the web from anywhere. That’s why more than 60 per cent of us now have them. But if you’re still using a traditional mobile phone, here’s how you could benefit from taking the step up to a smartphone.

Talk to your friends and family in more ways

Smartphones let you talk to more people in more ways through emails, social networks and apps. That means you can easily get in touch with an old friend, even if you don’t have their phone number any more thanks to apps like Facebook that let you search by name. Or you could keep up with work emails while out of the office.

Use a smartphone for loads more things

There are hundreds of thousands of apps for smartphones that do everything from turn your phone into a Sat Nav to tell you the weather. Some apps, like WhatsApp, Skype or SnapChat, help you stay in touch with people, while others will tell you train and bus times wherever you are. Almost everything you could want to do can be done with an app.

Find anything online

And when there isn’t an app for what you want to do, a smartphone has access to the internet. So if your local bus route can’t be found on an app, find it online. Whether you want to do online shopping or just find the answer to a question, getting online on your smartphone is just like getting online on your computer.

Stay entertained anywhere

As well as all the apps, there are loads of games ready to download onto your new smartphone. You can get the latest FIFA football game, play Angry Birds Go or find a game that’ll help your kids learn maths. With everything from number puzzles to shoot-‘em-ups, you’ll find something to keep you entertained on your smartphone.

Take sharper photos

Smartphones also tend to have better cameras than traditional mobile phones. In fact, the Nokia Lumia 1020 has a massive 41 megapixel camera that’ll let you take incredible photos. Plus the big screens on smartphones make great viewfinders so you can take even better photos.

See everything more clearly

Those big screens are great for games, movies and reading too. They’re sharper and have better colours than traditional mobile phones, making everything look a lot better. So you could use a smartphone as an eReader, a portable movie player or a handheld games console easily.

Get a better mobile signal

Smartphones should give you better phone signal too. That’s because they get given the best antennae for getting a signal. Plus they can connect to 3G networks, unlike a lot of traditional mobile phones, which give more reliable phone call connections when you’re talking to people
