Watch David Haye's comeback fight in VR

Want ringside seats to former heavyweight champion David Haye’s comeback fight this Saturday? You’re in luck. It’s the first boxing match to be broadcast in virtual reality, so you can get the best seat in the house on your Android phone or tablet.

David Haye virtual realityAll you need to do is download the specially-made Hayemaker 360 app and you’ll be able to enjoy 360⁰ video of every punch. You don’t need a virtual reality headset (like Google Cardboard or Samsung Gear VR) to use the app, but you’ll get a better experience if you have one.

David ‘Hayemaker’ Haye said: “I’m thrilled to bring immersive VR technology to big time boxing - allowing the public to stand alongside me in the ring, letting them see what I see and experience every punch.”

Standing alongside him? Does that mean Haye will be wearing a VR camera? Wherever the camera is, you’re guaranteed a better experience than you’ll get watching the fight on your TV as you’ll be able to look around at the crowd, making it feel like you’re in the O2 Arena.

But the app isn’t just about the fight, it’ll also be full of exclusive virtual reality content about David Haye. You’ll be able to fully appreciate the work that goes into training for big fights and get a much closer look at the man himself.

IM360, the company that made the Hayemaker 360 app, said: “We’re proud to be able to bring true live virtual reality to market, providing sports fans a level of entertainment never experienced. With this first-ever live VR boxing match, we continue to push the boundaries of virtual reality as it enters the world of mainstream sports entertainment.”

We definitely agree with the company. Watching live events in immersive virtual reality is a truly exciting next step for our smartphones and tablets.
