iD's video series takes a trip to the circus

iD, the 4G mobile network from Carphone Warehouse, has launched part three of their #DoYourOwnThing brand campaign. This time round, the documentary-style series tells the story of Gary Stocker – a City lawyer who risked it all to follow his dream of a life in the circus.

Circus dreams

By swapping his six-figure salary in the city for a life in the big top, Gary Stocker is living proof that you can #DoYourOwnThing. This made him an obvious choice for iD’s inspirational brand campaign.

Gary explains: “I used to work in the City of London as a lawyer. That would have been a dream for some people, but I always had this voice in the back of my head nagging away at me saying… you know what it is you want to do.”

What Gary wanted to do more than anything else was an unusual choice of career, to say the least. But he decided to listen to the voice in his head, break from his old life, and join the circus.

Check out Gary’s full amazing story on iD's #DoYourOwnThing 'circus' page.

Poetic Pilgrimage

The second part of iD's #DoYourOwnThing video series introduced Ms Noor and Ms Rashida. Together, they are are Poetic Pilgrimage - a British Muslim hip-hop duo founded in 2002, who express themselves through the art of rhyme.
They perform a mix of progressive hip hop and spoken word, fusing their African and Caribbean roots with other musical tastes, including jazz, afrobeat, and soul.

Both Muslim converts, the musicians originally met at a talent show for young black people in Bristol. They later moved to London to study, and they’ve lived there ever since.

Ms Rashida said: "The iD advert really reflects how empowered we are on a day-to-day basis. We're really excited about it"

Fletcher Street Riding Club

The #DoYourOwnThing series kicked off with the hard-hitting tale of the Fletcher Street Riding Club, a horse-riding club in Philadelphia that provides a life away from crime for young people living in the city’s poorest neighbourhoods.

You can see how the club gives its members a chance to take control of their lives on iD's Fletcher Street Riding Club page.

iD's #DoYourOwnThing series

#DoYourOwnThing showcases and celebrates the lives of unique individuals who aren’t afraid to do things differently. They think independently and do what they believe - just like iD.

You can check out all the #DoYourOwnThing videos on the iD website here: Alternatively, head over to the iD Facebook page.

The first four films of this digital-only campaign premiered on Facebook from 25th April, and was followed by a sequence of films launched across a number of VICE’s digital channels entitled “New Originals”.

"New Originals" on VICE

The “New Originals” series launched on 29th April across a variety of VICE’s digital lifestyle channels including Broadly, VICE Sports and Noisey, and consists of a group of real individuals realising their dreams and doing their own thing in an authentic way.
