Stay connected at Glastonbury

It’s Glastonbury Festival next week (June 24th-28th), and if you’re one of the lucky few million to have bagged yourself a ticket, now’s a good time to start planning for it.

We’ve already told you about some great festival phones, we found the handy Festival Ready app for you, and we're now rounding things off by introducing the Glastonbury app itself.

The Official Glastonbury 2015 App

This year’s official Glastonbury app has been developed by EE, and it’s free to download on iOS or Android. It promises to be the ‘ultimate festival guide in your pocket’, so let’s take a look at how it can help you have a weekend to remember, and avoid any Glasters disasters...

We like the ‘virtual pins’ feature, similar to virtual mapping on the Festival Ready app. This lets you mark important locations (your tent and car rather than Jägerbomb stalls, please people) and you can also let your friends know where you are at any given time.

The app also features a programming guide, so you can make your own timetable of the acts you want to catch, and share it on Facebook to compare your plans with friends. This won’t stop you arguing about whether to catch the ever-reliable Chemical Brothers at 9:45pm on The Other Stage, or the awesome sounding FFS (Franz Ferdinand and Sparks collaboration) at 10:05pm on The John Peel Stage, but if you do go your own separate ways, remember you can drop a ‘virtual pin’ and meet up later! Very civilised.

To help you stay in the loop, the app will also give you all the latest festival news with real-time updates throughout the weekend.

And finally, if you get tired of straining your eyes to see your favourite bands, you can view live streams of sets from the BBC.

Power up at this year's Glastonbury

EE is Glastonbury Festival’s official communications and technology partner, and the UK’s biggest network has been hard at work making this year’s festival the most connected yet.

Not only will there be a 4G network for the entire festival site, EE is also creating Wi-Fi hotspots for all festival-goers to take advantage of, no matter which network you’re on.

EE is also doing something about the main source of woe for mobile owners – running out of power! Juice starved punters from any network will be able to visit tents where they can chill out for a while and charge their devices for free.

More places for mobile charging at festivals sounds good to us – let’s hope we see start seeing it at smaller events around the country. We all enjoy getting back to nature, switching off and forgetting about the worries of modern life for a few days… and if we can do all that with 4G connectivity and Wi-Fi, even better.
