Sony SmartBand 2 unveiled

Sony just unveiled the SmartBand 2, a new wristband designed to tell you more about your health and fitness.

The Sony SmartBand 2 is designed to give you insights into your fitness, well-being and stress levels by monitoring your heart rate and tracking it alongside everything you do. The idea being that the combination of data will let you make better conclusions about your health.

For example, Sony’s Lifelog app will keep a detailed digital diary of everything you do. So you could go back and see how high your heart rate got while running or at work, which would let you see how fit you are or how stressed you get.

Sleep tracking is also included on the new SmartBand 2. It automatically detects when you’re in bed and starts monitoring how well you sleep so you can try different things to get a better night’s rest.

And when it’s time to get up, a smart alarm gently vibrates when you’re sleeping lightest so you feel more rested. Plus, because it’s a vibrating alarm, it won’t wake up the person sleeping next to you.

But the SmartBand 2 isn’t just designed as a fitness and wellbeing tool, it’ll also gives you handy notifications. Whether you have an Android phone or iPhone, subtle vibrations and bright LEDs will make sure you never miss a call, text or email.

Like all of Sony’s current smart gadgets, the SmartBand 2 is waterproof and has a special focus on battery life – it can charge in an hour and last up to two days. That means you can wear the wristband anywhere.

Finally, the SmartBand 2 has a similar design to the original SmartBand. So if you’re upgrading and already have a particular strap you love, you can use it with the new wristband.

The Sony SmartBand 2 will launch in September and will be available in either black or white, with other colour options coming later.
