Sony reveals XZ Premium and XA1
Sony Xperia XZ Premium

Today at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Sony added two exciting new additions to the X family of smartphones.

XZ Premium with Super Slow Motion

First to be announced is the 5.5in screened Sony Xperia XZ Premium – featuring a new 19MP Motion Eye camera, with the world’s first ever super slow motion video available in a smartphone.

It records at 960 frames per second, capturing motion the human eye can’t see. Plus super slow motion playback is four times slower than other smartphones, giving you more detail than ever.

Sony has equipped this new device with Predictive Capture – which automatically starts buffering images when it detects motion, even before you press the button, so you can find a moment you might have missed.

2015’s Z5 Premium was a big success story for Sony. The phablet sized phone was the first ever to feature a 4k screen. Now they’ve gone one better with the new XZ Premium which features a 4K HDR screen. Offering an even better viewing experience than 4K, 4K HDR displays offer better brightness, colour, clarity and contrast – perfect for watching the latest movies, TV shows and top games.

And thanks to a partnership with Amazon Video, there’s already a selection of 4K HDR content to stream or download for free.

Powerful specs

While the camera and the screen may be stars of the show, the XZ Premium has some impressive tech behind the scenes. There’s a Snapdragon 835 processor for stunning graphics, superior performance and enhanced battery efficiency. The phone is again waterproof. And There’s High Resolution Audio playback too.

These phones will be available on launch in Chrome and Black. Watch our latest phones page at to see when you can register to get it first, at the best price.

Meet the Sony Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra

It wasn’t just flagships that got attention from Sony at MWC. The company also unveiled two new versions of their mid range smartphone – the 5in Sony Xperia XA1 and the 6in XA1 Ultra.

Both phones now benefit from camera tech found on previous Sony flagships, including a 23MP camera with superior lowlight capability and their Hybrid Autofocus technology, to make sure the most spontaneous moments are always in focus.

The front facing camera on the XA1 is 8MP, and the XA1 Ultra has a 16MP snapper, with Optical Image Stabilisation to remove the effects of a shaky hand.

Edge to edge display

The beautiful borderless design of the original XA can be found on these two devices. The 5in screen on the XA1 is HD, and the 6in screen on the XA1 Ultra is Full HD. Plus they’re both supported by technology behind the scenes to give you a crisper, sharper picture.

There’s an excellent processor on board to keep your experience quick and smooth. And both models support quick charging, to give you hours of power with just a few minutes charging.

The XA1 and XA1 Ultra will be available at Carphone Warehouse in White, Black, Pink and Gold. Just like the XZ Premium, keep your eye our latest phones page at to see when you can register to get it first, at the best price.
