Sony reveals the XZ2
Check out the new Sony Xperia XZ2 coming soon to Carphone Warehouse

Big news from MWC in Barcelona today as Sony took to the stage to announce the next member of their Xperia family, the XZ2, coming soon to Carphone Warehouse.

Meet the Sony XZ2

While the device still has a recognisably Sony look, there are a few noticeable design changes. The screen is now a 5.7 inch Full HD+ HDR display, which is a significant upgrade on the XZ1. And it’s Sony’s first 18:9 extended display, giving you even more screen than before.

The design is slimmer and narrower, and the screen itself is 3D curved Gorilla Glass 5. On the sides, there’s a seamless aluminium frame. And the Gorilla Glass extends to the back, with a beautiful selection of new colour choices, including Liquid Black, Liquid Silver, Petrol Blue and Ash Pink.

Capture the wow

Sony has form in producing exceptional smartphone cameras, and this release is no exception. The new device now offers the world’s first 4K HDR movie recording in a smartphone. We’ve seen this in action, and it really is quite stunning.

Sony were also first with a super slo-mo camera, with the XZ1 producing 960 frame per second last year. This year, the XZ2 has improved on this, now offering super slo-mo video in Full HD.

And while the trend seems to be creating emojis of yourself, Sony has gone in a different direction, giving you the ability to 3D scan yourself into your phone to create virtual avatars. Previously a friend had to do this for you, but now Sony have introduced a selfie version of the software, so you can do it all by yourself. And now Facebook has introduced 3D selfie uploads, you’ll now be able to show them off on social media too.

Lose yourself in entertainment

The XZ2 has a few more tricks up its sleeve. If you’re playing standard definition video on your new phone, it will up convert them to beautiful HDR, so you can take full advantage of the beautiful screen.

The phone is now 20% louder than the previous model, and with new S-Force surround sound, you can enjoy the phones Hi-Res audio capabilities while you’re watching movies, Netflix or gaming.

And speaking of gaming, one of the phones greatest new features is Sony’s new Dynamic Vibration System. It’s essentially a Dual Shock controller, but included in your phone. So, now, when you’re watching films, playing games or enjoying your favourite music video, the phone will use the audio track to optimise vibrations. It certainly adds some impact.

So, team up HDR upscaling, Hi-Res audio with S-Force surround sound speakers, and the Dynamic Vibration System, and you’ve got quite an impressive entertainment machine.

Everything else

The Sony XZ2 comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, and a 3,180 mAh battery. It has 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of expandable storage.

There’s now a new fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone, and it’s also always on, so you don’t need to hold it down to activate it like you did on the XZ1.

The camera on the back is a 19MP Motion Eye shooter, and there’s a 5MP selfie camera on the front. And the phone is water resistant to IP65.

Also, for the first time, thanks to the beautiful Gorilla Glass back, the XZ2 now has wireless charging.
