Pokemon GO is finally in UK app stores

Gotta catch ‘em all

The much-anticipated mobile Pokémon game, Pokémon GO, is finally in UK app stores. After a slow global realease, starting in New Zealand, Australia and the US, we can eventually have a crack at catching 'em all.

The augmented reality app, announced last September, has proved a massive success worldwide, reportedly adding $7.5bn (£5.6bn) to Nintendo’s market value. If its popularity continues to climb, which experts are predicting, it could overtake Google Maps in terms of users – already surpassing Twitter and Tinder.

What does it do?

This game is about so much more than journeying through the Nintendo world while sitting on your sofa at home. You now have to venture out into our world and find the Pokémon in their ‘natural habitats’ (i.e. water type Pokémon will be found near lakes and rivers).

Using your smartphone’s camera, you have to follow on-screen directions to find Pikachu and friends, and then attempt to capture them. Check out the video above to see it in action.

While you’re exploring your city, you’ll also be able to find gyms where you can train your Pokémon to battle with other local players' for control of that location.

How much does Pokémon GO cost?

The game is available to play for free, with in-app purchases varying in price from 79p to £79.99. These costs allow you to buy PokéCoins, which in turn will let you buy certain things in the game. So be careful, as it could become a very expensive experience.

Download the game by following the link to your app store: Google’s Play Store, App Store.

Does this mean that with such massive success we could see more classic Nintendo games coming to mobile? Have your say in the comments below, and let us know about your Pokémon adventures.
