Nokia Lumia 930 review

The brightest and boldest Windows Phones yet

Nokia always makes solid phones, and the Nokia Lumia 930 is just that, well built, fast and powerful. Nokia has also made a name for itself when it comes to cameras, and the 20MP camera on the back is brilliant. The 930 is a really great all round phone.

The best bits

  • The phone’s metal frame feels solid and premium
  • The camera takes excellent photos
  • The screen still looks amazing in bright sunlight
  • Windows Phone has top apps like Office built in
  • Nokia’s own apps are brilliant

The Nokia Lumia 930 is perfect for anyone looking for a premium smartphone. With some of the best apps around preinstalled, a modern design and a top camera, there’s not a lot wrong with it.

Nokia's ledgendary build and design

Metal mixed with high quality plastic gives a really nice premium feel to the Lumia 930. It feels like it’ll take a knock or two and not worry about it. And if you like bright, bold colours, you’ll love the orange and green versions. Or if you want something a bit more subtle, the black one looks great too.

High-end camera

With 20MP to play with, photos come out with lots of detail and lovely colours. There’s also lots of settings options, so you can play with focus, shutter speed, white balance and more to get really interesting photos. And we think the built in photo editing apps are absolutely amazing.

Top quality screen

At 5 inches and with Full HD resolution, the Lumia 930’s screen is perfect for movies and games. It’s also really bright, colourful and has some unique technology that makes it really easy to see in bright light. That means you can sit in the park on a sunny day and still use your phone without struggling to see what’s on the screen.

A world of apps

Nokia and Microsoft make some of the best mobile apps around and the Lumia 930 comes with them all. There’s Microsoft Office so you can work while on the move; HERE Maps gives you a fantastically detailed Sat Nav that can even be used offline; and Mix Radio gives you access to millions of songs for free. And the Windows Store has hundreds of thousands more apps to try.

The downsides

Compared to some of the other top phones around at the moment, the Lumia 930 feels a bit big and heavy because of its new metal frame. That makes it feel like it won’t get damaged easily, but it’ll also weigh you down.

We also weren’t too impressed with the battery life. While most people will get a full day’s use out of it, you’d want to charge it every night to make sure you can use it in the morning.

Our verdict

If you want a phone that feels as indestructible as Nokias of old, then the Nokia Lumia 930 is perfect. It also has all the power and state of the art features that you’d want in a top smartphone. You just have to make sure you keep it well-charged.
