What’s next for Nintendo and the smartphone?

Following the popularity of Super Mario Run, Nintendo is set to launch more of its beloved titles on the mobile app stores. A few months ago, Fire Emblem Heroes was met with a lukewarm reception, but soon we can expect to see some of the more classic names on the small screen.

The Legend of Zelda

A report from The Wall Street Journal reveals that Nintendo is going to be bringing its Zelda protagonist, Link, to a smartphone near you, following the release of an Animal Crossing game.

The article doesn’t reveal any details about what we can expect from the new Zelda title, however the news in itself is enough to excite Nintendo fans worldwide. Riding on the coattails of the much-celebrated Breath of the Wild game released on the big N’s latest console, Wii U, the bar is set pretty high.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has received rave reviews from game critics for its ‘open world’ setting. You can watch the game’s trailer, in all its glory, below.

Whether or not it’ll follow the same pay-to-play design Super Mario Run did is one of the big questions. But it’s fair to assume diehard fans would be willing to part with cash for the chance to explore the land of Hyrule all over again.

Animal Crossing

There’s been a delay put on the release of Animal Crossing, with Nintendo continuing to push the date back. It was originally supposed to see the light of day in March 2017. However, fans of the anthropomorphic strategy game world will have to be patient, with Nintendo saying it’s scheduled for “the next fiscal year” – any time between now and March 2018.
