Netflix update lets you download shows

The update we’ve all been waiting for

Netflix is often the go-to app when you need to unwind after a long day at the office, or on sleepy Sundays, or just whenever really. But it’s never been there for us on the commute. That is, until now.

The streaming giant has announced in a surprise press release that all its members worldwide can now download content to watch later without an internet connection.

What can I download from Netflix?

Right now, you can’t download absolutely everything Netflix has to offer – but there is still a lot to choose from.

The director of product innovation, Eddy Wu, commented: “Many of your favorite [sic] streaming series and movies are already available for download, with more on the way, so there is plenty of content available for those times when you are offline. For example, Orange is The New Black, Narcos and The Crown are available for download today.

“The new feature is included in all plans and available for phones and tablets on Android and iOS.”

To get started, you need to update your app on your smartphone or tablet. This should happen automatically when it’s plugged in and connected to Wi-Fi, but you can always push a manual update by heading to the app store (Google Play for Android or App Store for iOS).

There are still a few question marks hovering over the update, like how much stuff you can download at once, or how long the shows stay on your device before being deleted, but time will tell. We’re sure you’re as excited as us, and can’t wait to get downloading.

Got any questions, or anything to add? Drop us a comment below and we’ll get back to you.
