Microsoft 2016 event roundup

Everything you missed from the Microsoft event…

Last night Microsoft held one of its biggest events of the year, lifting the curtain on an array of new technology to change the face of personal computing. If you missed the announcement, we’ve rounded up the biggest headlines right here.

New VR headsets

Microsoft has been building the hype around its game-changing AR, mixed-reality headset, HoloLens, lately, but what if you don’t have a spare £2,500 knocking around? Luckily, the company is planning on introducing some more reasonably priced VR headsets, partnering with the likes of Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

Although details are very thin on the ground at the moment, Windows confirmed on Twitter that the headsets would start from $299 (£244).

Surface Studio

The undeniable headline of the keynote was the Surface Studio, which we can best describe as a 28-inch digital drafting table. Its top line specs include a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, a huge 3TB of storage and an adjustable stand to suit your standing or sitting position.

Prices are said to start at $3,000 (£2,500), hitting the shelves before Christmas.

Surface Book

The curtain was also lifted on a brand new Surface Book, with big upgrades made to the internal software. There’s the latest Intel Core i7 processor, with twice as powerful graphics as its predecessor and the battery is said to last a whopping 16 hours.

Surface Dial

The hockey puck-style dial works alongside the Surface Studio and Book. It can be placed alongside, or on the display of the Surface range, letting you scroll, zoom and rotate your projects.
