Everything you need to know about Huawei Mate 9

Huawei has lifted the curtain on its latest flagship smartphone, the Mate 9. The new device features a giant 5.9-inch Full HD screen, a dual lens Leica-powered camera at 20MP and 12MP, and a whopping 4,000mAh battery.

If that isn’t enough, however, the Chinese company has created a super-powered version in association with Porsche Design.

The luxury variant is unsurprisingly full of high-end specs too, but slightly smaller in size. The display measures 5.5-inches - with Quad HD resolution - and design-wise, it doesn’t look too dissimilar to the Samsung Galaxy S7. It features the same dual camera set up as the original, but packs an astounding 6GB RAM (compared to 4GB on the Mate 9).

The trend of creating extravagant versions of flagship smartphones has died off over the past few years – but Huawei is here to revive it.

“Huawei’s brand ethos mirrors our own commitment to premium innovation and functional design so we are delighted to partner with Huawei to bring high-performance individuals the smartphone that they demand, and deserve” says Dr Jan Becker, COO and spokesperson of the management board of Porsche Design Group.

“The DNA of our brand is reflected in the device’s signature Porsche Design, giving consumers a smartphone that is as beautiful to hold, as it is to use.”

Richard Yu, Huawei’s CEO, backed up the sentiment commenting: “Porsche Design is synonymous with excellence in innovation, unique design and perfection. The Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 sets a new benchmark in design and performance and delivers a revolutionary smartphone experience that will enhance even the fastest-paced business and personal lifestyles.”

The Porsche Design Mate 9 is expected to cost an eye-watering €1,395 (£1,240) at launch in January 2017.
