Cortana now tracks your workouts

Microsoft’s voice-controlled personal assistant has a new trick up her sleeve. Cortana will now help you stay on top of your workouts thanks to a software update.

You can now choose ‘fitness tracker’ as an option when you’re telling Cortana about your interests. The app says that when you turn on the fitness tracker, Cortana will help you keep up with your workout schedule.

We haven’t had the update on our Windows Phone handset yet, so we’re not sure exactly what that means. We image that your phone’s motion sensors will let Cortana figure out what you’re doing so she can push you harder with her personality-full voice. Or she might just remind you to go to the gym every couple of days.

Cortana already has a proven track record with sports. She correctly predicted the results of 15 out of 16 World Cup matches last year and even picked the winner of Super Bowl 49.

The update to Cortana should hit phones running Windows Phone 8.1 soon. But if you’ve already got it, let us know what you think of the new fitness tracking in the comments below.
