Chromecast Audio is one of our favourite new gadgets of 2015. The little dongle plugs into your speakers, letting you send music to them via Wi-Fi. Now there’s even more to get excited about as Google has upgraded the software to bring two new features.
Multi-room with Chromecast Audio
If you want to create a smart sound system for your whole home, Chromecast’s new multi-room feature will let you do it on the cheap.
Just plug a Chromecast Audio into each of the speakers in your house and use the Chromecast app to group them together. You can then cast your favourite tracks to every speaker at the same time so you can keep listening anywhere in the house.
This new update makes Chromecast Audio a real competitor to high-end multi-room speakers like Sonos, only now you can create a similar setup at a fraction of the cost.
Hi-res audio on Chromecast Audio
If you’re using Chromecast Audio to upgrade some high quality old speakers, you’ll love that the dongle now supports hi-res audio that’ll make the most of your speakers’ ability to produce great sound.
You can now cast 96KHz/24bit lossless audio files, meaning you get better sound quality than you would from a CD.
The new features will automatically be added to your Chromecast Audio with the next update to your Chromecast app.
